Julie McCartney joined the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) in January 2021, with sixteen years’ experience of the delivery and management of front-line drug treatment and harm reduction services, in Edinburgh. Julie is hugely passionate about public health and Scotland’s national take home naloxone programme, which Julie has been part of since 2011.

Within SAS, the team is in a unique position to directly support those patients most at risk of an overdose and prevent unnecessary death.  Julie and the team take action to make a difference at the most crucial time in someone’s life.
