Susan McNarry

Susan McNarry graduated in 1986, and initially worked in the South of England. Susan has a Bobath qualification in the treatment of adults with acquired neurological injury. After graduating, Susan facilitated a trip to Croatia to a head injury rehabilitation centre for victims of the war in the former Yugoslavia. On her return, Susan worked in Intensive Care (ITU) and acute respiratory medicine – this was the start of Susan’s respiratory physiotherapy career.  

Susan completed numerous respiratory physiotherapy courses in London, South East of England and Glasgow, which facilitated the introduction of a multi-disciplinary ITU follow-up service for patients with complex physical and emotional needs.

In 1997, Susan was head of department in a large district general hospital in New Zealand, and was responsible for all acute adult in-patient physiotherapy services.

Between 2000 and 2005, Susan was an ALERT (Acute Life-threatening Events Recognition Training) course trainer within a multi-disciplinary team, and was jointly responsible for training junior medical staff in managing acutely unwell adult in-patients.

From 1997-2002, Susan was responsible for the introduction and management of a hospital-based pulmonary rehabilitation service 

Currently, Susan is the team lead for the Lothian Pulmonary Rehabilitation service, and has been responsible for its implementation and development.
