Diane’s roles have included Director of Public Health Sciences in NHS Health Scotland, covering public health surveillance, evidence and evaluation aimed at improving health and reducing health inequalities, co-director of the Scottish Public Health Observatory and principal investigator for the Scottish Burden of Disease Study.

Diane's current area of focus is the scientific work on prevention, health improvement and healthcare public health. She is also the Health and Justice lead for PHS working with Police Scotland on public health approaches to policing and with the Scottish Prison Service on the health and wellbeing of prisoners.
