John Burns

On the 1st July 2021 John took up the position of Chief Operating Officer for NHS Scotland. Prior to this he was the Chief Executive of NHS Ayrshire and Arran for 9 years. He has worked in several roles across NHS Scotland over the last 38 years, working in Tayside, Glasgow, Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire and Arran, the last 20 years in Chief Executive roles.

John is passionate about leadership and has taken forward changes in his previous role to support leaders across the health and care system. He sees this work as a great opportunity to look at leadership for the 21st century.
