Marion McNaught

Critical Incident Stress Management Instructor, PSA Ltd

A woman with short grey hair, wearing a surgical mask, and blue medical scrubs.

Marion McNaught has worked in the NHS for forty years – spending twelve years as a General Practitioner and nineteen years in Emergency Medicine with NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

Throughout Marion’s career she has been an advocate for staff support. As Educational Supervisor and the British Medical Association (BMA) representative, Marion provided support to trainees and colleagues before becoming formally involved in NHS Ayrshire & Arran Medical Peer Support in 2016.

Marion went on to undertake training with the International Clinical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF), completing Assisting Individuals in Crisis and Group Crisis Intervention to Advanced Level.

At the onset of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Marion was working in a senior role in the Accident & Emergency Department at University Hospital Ayr, and although could not guarantee any protected time for peer support activities, Marion supported staff within the department and liaised with the staff care and wellbeing teams.

As the need for more staff support was recognised, Marion became involved in facilitation of training commencing in May 2020. Training was coordinated and led by Angela Lewis (PSA-Ltd) and they have worked together, reaching health and social care personnel across several Health Board areas. At the start of 2021 Marion completed the requirements to achieve ICISF approved instructor status.
