In the early 1990s Mark carried out several management roles in NHS Scotland. He then spent four years running VSO’s international development operations in Ghana, as a job-share with his wife. Returning to Scotland he led the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland for nine years.

Mark has been CEO of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care (SPPC) since 2009. The 100+ organisations which comprise the Partnership span NHS Boards, Integration Authorities, hospices and many other third sector organisations. SPPC performs network functions for the sector. Through his public-facing initiative Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief, SPPC promotes supportive attitudes and behaviours relating to death, dying & bereavement across Scottish society.
