In Conversation with… Caroline Lamb, Chief Executive of NHS Scotland and Director General Health and Social Care and John Burns, Chief Operating Officer, NHS Scotland

14:00 – 15:15

New for 2022, delegates had the opportunity to book onto the highly anticipated ‘In Conversation’ sessions.

These smaller, more informal sessions were designed to produce an intimate atmosphere allowing for an honest and open two way dialogue to take place. To help shape the conversations, each session started with two questions from the hosts. For those who attended the session here is a helpful reminder of the nature of the discussion.

Each conversation was different in detail but they all tied back to similar themes around service and staff resilience, workforce sustainability, working together across multiple agencies to improve health and social care for the people of Scotland.

We’d like to extend our thanks to our Event Chair Pennie Taylor for facilitating these sessions and Ken Darling for visually capturing the conversations through real-time illustrations and to the delegates for actively contributing to these conversations.

This session set out to discuss the challenges faced in the delivery of healthcare services as we recover from the pandemic and reform for the future. The main two questions shaping the conversation were:

  • What are the main barriers that prevent improvement from happening and how can we work together to address them? (Caroline)
  • What do you see as the main opportunities for improvement in your area? (John)
