NHS Scotland Event 2023

19 June 2023

About

We’re delighted to announce that the NHS Scotland Event 2023 will take place on Monday 19 June at the SEC in Glasgow.

The theme for this year's Event is Recovery and Renewal in our Health and Care Services

Due to the ongoing pressures across our health and social care system, we’ve decided to go light for 2023 with a one-day in-person event. The Event will still deliver an extensive programme of the most important thinking and developments for our NHS Scotland and partners as we continue to reform and renew coming out of the pandemic. So while this year’s Event will be a more-stripped back affair – and sadly without our usual exhibition hall and poster exhibition - you’ll still have the opportunity to hear from some of the most senior leaders across the health and care system in Scotland and to take part in discussions about priorities and ongoing work to meet current and future challenges.

And of course, as we’re still in-person, you’ll have the opportunity to network and meet with colleagues who work in and with NHS Scotland to have those really important conversations.

Recovery and Renewal in our Health and Care Services

Across health and social care in Scotland we have seen extraordinary efforts from individuals and teams delivering services and support to people in Scotland. This has been in the context of one of the most challenging winters we have faced as an NHS. As we continue our pandemic recovery, we are facing unprecedented pressures ranging from Covid flu, Strep A and other diseases, alongside pressures across social care and the impact of cost of living crisis.

For our patients, the impact of both the pandemic and the challenges of this winter have meant longer wait times for some services, and access to some health services have been more challenging. This has placed strain for both staff and patients alike as we all seek to deliver the best outcomes for people across Scotland.

In May 2020, the Scottish Government published Re-mobilise, Recover, Re-design which set out the approach for NHS Boards to safely and gradually prioritise the resumption of services post-pandemic. Now that we have moved beyond the four stages of remobilisation into the recovery phase, we will transition to ‘recovery and renewal’ as we build and develop the health service for today and into the future.

The NHS Scotland Event 2023 will focus on how we address together the immediate and longer-term challenges. We will focus on our priorities for the recovery and renewal journey, building on the learning from collaborative working to deliver the highest quality person-centred, safe and effective integrated care for every individual in Scotland, and laying the building blocks for future transformation in service delivery.

Adapting and adjusting how we deliver health and care is critical to meet the demands of the changing needs of the population, and respond to how people are able to access services to drive prevention, early-intervention, reduce health inequalities and support improvement in health outcomes. Ensuring that we have a workforce that feels valued and well supported, alongside world-class skills and capabilities is fundamental to our success.

The Event will explore how we work together towards renewal of our health and care services: how we sustain what is working, improve what needs changed, and look to redesign the service to embrace new ways of working that delivers the best care for the people of Scotland.

As we look to improve our delivery of services in the short-term ahead of next winter, we will also need look at how we plan services right across the range of public services to truly deliver integrated health and care set around the individual.
